Sauerland-Herbst (Sauerland-Autumn)
The World's Best Brass in Sauerland
The first Sauerland-Herbst took place in 2000 and since then, it has established itself as one of the biggest brass festivals in the world. The Hochsauerland district organizes the series of concerts, bringing new and exciting colours into the Sauerland-Herbst year after year. International brass ensembles, bands, orchestras and soloists present themselves in an outstanding series of concerts held in unusual and surprising venues – a unique and successful concept. However, visitors will not only be indulged with world-class music: during the breaks in many concerts, the public will also be able to savour the distinctive flavours created for them by renowned, regional gastronomes.
Musical presentation of the highest calibre, outstanding virtuosity and an instinct for the innovative are hallmarks of the performers. The musical repertoire is extensive, ranging across genres, from classical to jazz, pop and rock music. World leading ensembles and soloists take part in the Sauerland-Herbst every year. They include, for example, the ‘Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble’ which is composed of 12 soloists from one of the world’s most renowned orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonics. Further we are happy to welcome two birthday childs to this year’s Sauerland Herbst: ‘BuJazzO’ has been acting as cultural ambassador as well as a gate to the famous stages of the world for young talents during a period of 20 years and ‘Pro Brass’ – exeptional prizewinning musicians from Vienna – are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a special programme this year.
‘Sonus Brass’, an innovative austrian ensemble, and ‘ElbtonalPercussion’, who present exquisite percussion art, have also performed frequently as guests in the Sauerland.
‘Rennquintett’ with its brilliant brass sound, plays to sold out audiences everywhere. Also celebrated by enthusiastic audiences, are ‘Brandt Brass’ from Russia, the radio symphony orchestra ‘hr-brass’ and the ‘NDR Bigband’ under the direction of the swedish jazz star Nils Landgren.
‘Amsterdam Trumpet Ensemble’ and ‘Brass Band de Waldsang’ from our neighboring country the Netherlands offer a unique spread of different timbres to the audience and round off the journey through Europe and thus, the outstanding Sauerland-Herbst program.
The world-class ensembles and groups are renowned for their brilliant and experimental performances. The musicians bring musical life into extraordinary places: rocking factory halls, museums, historically classified churches, schools and car showrooms.Firmly established as a feature of the Brass in Sauerland concept, the ‘International Sauerland Brass Workshops’ complete the outstanding Festival program. World renowned teachers from many countries conduct an inspiring series of workshops in solo performance as well as in ensemble playing.
